On our way HOME!!

Today our precious angels are coming home! The power of prayer is amazing. Both babies are doing great. Their eating well, body temps are staying where they should and they are more beautiful every day! Last night we spent the night at the hospital with Mahlon and Sara Beth...what an experience! This was our first time "alone" with them, but we were able to call the nurses if we needed them. The night started out (at 8:30pm) rough because neither baby wanted to eat which was quite frustrating since we hadn't had that problem before. And daddy got to change his first diaper EVER!! Sara Beth let him have it!! She had a poopy diaper...and since daddy was a little slow she started to tinkle before he had a fresh diaper on. Once he finally got her fresh diaper under her(not on her) she started pooping again and squirming around! Boy did I get a big laugh!! If I could have caught it all on video I would have won a million dollars!! By 12:30am both babies were starving so we had a good meal! Then it was time for Mahlon to have his diaper changed! And daddy did the honors again! Mahlon was an angel though. At 3:30 it was time to eat again...when I woke Mahlon up he was WET! Daddy didn't put the diaper on tight enough...Mahlon soaked through 2 layers of clothes and his swaddle blanket!! But they both ate well. We had to be out of our room by 6am so we stayed up until 5am and the nurses came to get our babies, we loaded up the car, headed to Madison, and slept until 10am! WE will head back at 11:30am to pick up our little packages!!! I'll post some coming home pics this afternoon if I can stay awake!

TODAY WE ARE 1 WEEK OLD

What a wonderful blessing! Today we went to the hospital to feed the babies lunch and our Neonatalogist (Chris Glick) was giving Mahlon and Sara Beth their daily check-up. Sara Beth was already in a "real" crib and able to regulate her body temp. Wesley gave Mahlon a bottle and he was getting ready to try a "real" crib too! Dr. Glick said she could think of a million excuses to keep them there, but no real reason. If both babies make it through the night with their temps "normal" Wesley and I will room in tomorrow night at the hospital and bring them home on FRIDAY!!! The power of prayer is AMAZING! Please continue to pray for the Double Days and Mommy and Daddy too!

Tiny feet and LONG toes

Can you believe how tiny these feet look?! Mahlon's foot is in my hand and Daddy has Sara Beth's foot. Not only does she have him wrapped around her finger he is wrapped around her little toes too!

First Photo Shoot

Today was such a fun day! Cheri bought Mahlon and Sara Beth matching premie gowns and we played dress up and had a photo shoot! Mahlon is on the left and Sara Beth(a.k.a. the nuzzler) is on the right. She wants to be right next to her brother! As you can see both babies are off of oxygen for good! Today Sara Beth weighed 5lbs 1oz. and Mahlon was 5lbs 4oz. This is huge...Sara Beth had a gain and this was the first day Mahlon has not lost weight! Mahlon is now trying to hold his head up and the nurses said he was beginning to cry! Both babies are so alert and they love looking at mommy and daddy while they eat. Our next big hurdle is keeping up their body temperature. Please pray that these sweet angels will be home soon!

Finally we have more pictures! Daddy and "Daddy Day" (Dick) have chocolate cigars to celebrate the arrival of Mahlon and Sara Beth...thanks June, only you would think of that! One of our first family pictures in the NICU...tiny tiny babies!

Update on the babies

The babies had a good day yesterday. They are eating much better, by bottle and breastfeeding. Almost all breast milk now (very little supplement) We will go today after lunch and try to breastfeed and hopefully get new pics to post. Please pray that each baby will be able to regulate his/her own body temps. This is our next big hurdle. I can't wait to show new pics. They are more beautiful every day!! Thank you for your prayers.

Both babies are still on oxygen. We are still trying to keep Mahlon from spitting up everything he eats. We hope to have some new pictures soon...

We look so much alike!

Sara Beth

These are a few pictures of Sara Beth from this morning. Cheri got to hold her and give her a bottle and burp her too! Poor Mahlon is back on oxygen and a feeding tube. We found out he is allergic to the formula and has lost 3 ounces already. He is doing much better now. Both babies are dressed in matching gingham from Cheri and Doc. They look precious!
