Making memories TWO at a time!

So I don't have to soak the babies clothes over night, I have a new way of feeding the babies sweet potatoes! Shirtless! Actually I ran out of Baby OxyClean and that is the only thing that really gets out any stain.
They are really starting to get big! Mahlon looks like a toddler in this picture...nothing baby about him. How sad!

Gran and Brinkley (Kiki) came to visit this week. They kept the babies and gave me a little break on Thursday and I got to go to the movies with Jennifer and Ollie. We went to see "He's Just Not That In To You." It was the perfect movie to see with a college friend and a nice break for me! They took the babies on a stroll yesterday and today and took us to dinner last night. We had a good visit. Gran couldn't believe how much the babies have changed since her last visit.

This is the day...

...that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it! OK so that is what Wesley and I were telling ourselves at the end of our CRAZY Sunday!

We had a great morning. We even got to church early which most of you know NEVER happens. It was the later part of our day that did us in. On Sunday nights we have community groups at people houses in place of Sunday night church. This week it was at our house and we were so excited to be the hosts. We also thought it would be easier on the babies. They could have dinner, take a short nap and then have their last bottle before bed...you know I am planner...things of course didn't go that way. But let me back up a little. Since we were having people over, the house had to be spotless. Poor Wesley was pooped before anyone got there. We were stashing swings, gliders and baby toys and vacuuming...anyway you get the point.

The babies started screaming about 30 minutes before the group arrived. They were hungry...easy fix right?? They took their entire bottles plus applesauce and oatmeal, a little more oatmeal and some apple juice! WOW they were hungry! They cried in between every bite of food, I couldn't shovel it in fast enough! They played for a little while we ate and socialized. Then it was time for the lesson. Wesley was teaching this week (for the first time) and he was already a little nervous and on edge from listening to screaming babies. Of course I was holding the teething princess and she squealed during his opening prayer and Mahlon bounced and made everything in the bouncy seat jingle. Maison took Mahlon and held him and kept him quiet for a while. Sara Beth squirmed and squealed and did everything but sit quietly (I'm sure I would squirm too if I had 2 big teeth cutting my gums!) We moved to every room in the house! So finally she was somewhat quiet in the nursery and Wesley is half way through the lesson and Lucy (the bad cat) throws up all over the carpet in front of the whole group. Seriously, she could have thrown up in any room and she chose to do it in the middle of 9 people! CHAOS!!! We stopped for a few minutes to get her mess cleaned up and by then poor Wesley had lost his train of thought and he was really thrown off! Then Lucy decided Brooky looked comfy and she began to "make biscuits" in his lap. That is when Wesley booted her outside. For the rest of the evening both cats were scratching at the door trying to get in. Wesley quickly finished the lesson and everyone headed home. We had the babies in bed by 8:20! I thought it would be a good idea to do one load of laundry before getting ready for bed myself...not such a good idea. The washing machine overflowed!!!! Are you kidding me! Now it is 11pm, my body aches from not stopping all day long and all we can do is laugh!! This is the day that Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!!

Busy week for S.B.

This week has been busy for Sara Beth. Bless her heart...she is teething. OUCH! She is so worn out from being fussy, but doesn't want to go to sleep. Her naps are all messed up so this is how she finally fell asleep last night. And she slept 10 1/2 hours! Maybe missing a nap every once in a while is a good thing.

Not only is she cutting teeth, but this week we have been working on sitting up. And here she is after 3 days of "practice"! Notice we have pillows surrounding them. They still tip over without any warning.

Sara Beth is much lower to the ground than Mahlon so it is easier for her to sit up. He is close, but not there yet. He likes to hold on to something

I can't believe how quickly things change once you hit 6 months!

Not so yummy!.

Today we tried green beans...obviously we aren't a big fan yet.

Mahlon was covered in green mush(hair, eyebrows, neck, fingers...)

And Sara Beth just kept it under her tongue and waited for the bite of sweet potatoes to follow. Then she would somehow push the green beans out and swallow the sweet potatoes.

Baby food is so messy and stains everything! Thank goodness for baby oxy-clean!

Happy Valentine's Day!

We had a great Valentine's day. We started the day with my favorite thing...shopping! We decided to keep things easy and inexpensive for Valentine's, and we both needed/wanted new clothes so our gift to each other was a new shirt(and we have them on in this pic)Oh and check out Mahlon's boots, he wants to be just like his daddy!
This afternoon Aunt Maggie and one of her friends Emily babysat so we could have a Valentine's date. We had reservations to have a wonderful dinner, but by mid-day we decided we would much rather go to Cinco de Mayo. It takes us about 25 minutes to get there so it is a treat to have a babysitter and get to go by ourselves. It was yummy, and I even got a rose (actually every female in the restaurant did)
The single rose didn't compare to the beautiful flowers my sweet hubby got me! I love Tulips!

We got home just in time to bathe and feed the babies and watch a movie on TV(for free) It was a great date night. Boy have things changed! Before babies we would have gone all out with a fancy meal, wine, etc...and now we're just happy to have a few hours together and then get right back to our routine and our little Valentines!

Visit from Ollie

Today Jennifer and Ollie came to visit. Sara Beth and Mahlon weren't quite sure what to think of mommy holding another baby. Isn't she too cute in her Valentine outfit and so tiny...she could be Sara Beth's baby doll! She is 6 weeks old It is hard to think back to when our babies where 6 weeks old...It is all so fuzzy! We can't wait to have play dates with Ollie!

Fruit of the week

This week we added applesauce to our oatmeal! YUMMY! They weren't quite sure what to think of something sweet, but if they are anything like their mommy they are gonna have a MAJOR sweet tooth!

Nursery

Sunday was our first trip to the church nursery. Sara Beth had fun in the bumbo with her friend Meena and Mahlon jumped in the bouncer and entertained everyone. They missed their nap so they were pooped and crashed on the way home. I had to post sweet Mahlon in his frog outfit.

Strawberry Park

It was such a nice day today we decided to take the babies to the park. Wesley and I had a picnic (the babies had already eaten their sweet potatoes before we left.) Then we went for a stroll on the track. The babies love to swing...especially Sara Beth. She grinned from ear to ear! It was a great first trip to the park!

We went to visit our friends the Thomsen's this week. The babies talked and played with Bob and Sarah. Sara Beth even got in a power nap in Bob's lap. Looks like Bob and Sarah had fun too!

We are so lucky to have Wesley working from his home office. AnnaBelle really likes it. I took these pictures on Thursday afternoon. Wesley's hand is on his computer's mouse and AnnaBelle is just along for the ride!

6 month check-up

This is what happens when you take 2 babies to the doctor.

Yesterday was our 6 month check-up. Dr. Storey was so proud of our gianormous babies! She stood Mahlon up on the table and said she has never looked a 6 month old baby in the eyes before...he is 28 1/2 inches tall (97th percentile) and weighs
19 1/2 pounds (75th percentile). Sara Beth is a little shorter, but still average at 26 inches (50%)and 17 1/2 pounds (75%). She was very impressed with their cognitive skills(how well they make eye contact, giggling, and smiling) We had to get our shots and the flu vaccine, but the babies did so good! Very little crying this time! We are so blessed to have such sweet, healthy and smart babies.

Big boy!

Mahlon 6 weeks old...

Mahlon 6 months old!

I think he has out grown his swing. He definitely takes after his daddy! His daddy's advice...get used to having your feet hang off the edge of things!

Tuesday, February 3, 2009

Today we had a busy day. We tried sweet potatoes for the first time and had lots of tummy time on the mat, sat in our bumbo seats to help our posture, went for a walk in the cold wind (that didn't last long)and Sara Beth sat up and stayed balanced for about 3 minutes...until she discovered her toes and then she took a nose dive! She is getting so strong!

Veggie of the week

Today Wesley and I experimented with our first baby food...sweet potatoes...it was too easy. More people should make their own baby food! And the babies loved it! These are few pictures of the yummy mess they made. They really didn't waste much. And then they took 1 1/2 hour nap!! We love sweet potatoes at our house!

Super Bowl

No big party for us...we stayed at home and the babies watched football with their daddy. Just think, last superbowl they were the size of a pea in my belly! Boy have they grown.

They are really in to each other now. I showed you pics of Mahlon sucking his toes and then a few days later Sara Beth found her toes...now Sara Beth is sucking Mahlon's toes!

6 months old!

These pics are from Friday night. The babies had their 1/2 birthday! (6 months old) Doc and Cheri took us all out to eat at P.F. Changs. I couldn't get anyone to smile for the camera. Sara Beth slept through dinner (she is tucked in between Doc and Wesley) and Mahlon kept me and Cheri entertained!
What a wonderful 6 months it has been! Yes twins are hard, but we couldn't imagine just having 1 boy or 1 girl. They are such little blessings. I can't believe they are 6 months old! Time flys when you are having fun (or was it just lack of sleep!)
Happy 6 months Mahlon and Sara Beth!
